I’m a big fan of the original Dead Rising game. So much so that I think I was a big part in helping a friend of mine melt his Xbox360 back when the earlier models couldn’t handle all the processing due to some thermal paste problem. So I’m really excited to play the sequal which is coming out in a few days. Hopefully the sequel doesn’t melt my Xbox since I heard it’s going to use even more power. Nonetheless I was thinking about it and for some reason I came up with this idea in my head. How cool would it be to play a Dead Rising game in a comic convention setting? It could be an Xbox live add-on or something. Basically the virus pops up inside a convention center and they quarantine the entire building. You have 24 hours before they most likely nuke the place. All the props and costumes would be hilarious and you could make an upgrade system by finding comics, sort of like finding the books in the first game. You have to dig through back issue bins to complete series and gain power ups. Well, it probably won’t happen but I just thought it would be pretty sweet. Oh yeah and I did a quick sketch to get the idea across, enjoy!
While I was moving I ran across many buried treasures one of them being this picture. It’s the very first picture I ever drew of Ant Guy from way back in 1994 when I was only 13 years old. Wow I guess I still had a lot to learn about proportions back then but at least this answers the question a few people have asked me about the guy, which is why is he that teal color? Well, that’s the color he’s always been. Maybe I only had a select number of markers available to me at the time or I just thought it looked cool. I’ve been looking for this picture forever and it looks like the only thing my memory got wrong when I brought him out for this project was his eye color. The sketch book I found this in is filled with all sorts of cool things that I might reincorporate into the story. I’m so happy I found this stuff, yay!
Thanks to KennyP for the suggestion. The character for “C” is Clank from Ratchet and Clank. Truth be told I’ve never actually played any of the games, but judging from the screen shots I used for reference it looks like it could be fun. I don’t believe I’ll ever find out since I have an Xbox 360 and I’m pretty sure this is a PlayStation series.. oh well. Since I know pretty much nothing about the character it was fun to just play around and change it up a bit. Hopefully I didn’t go too far.. or maybe I didn’t go far enough? Anyways it’s just a sketch so it’s time to find something to sketch for “D”. For some reason the first thing that comes to mind is Dark Wing Duck, but just as before I’m open to suggestions. It’s fun to draw things I normally wouldn’t think of myself.
Hello again! Man it feels good to update this page again. I’m typing this through some freshly installed internets that I finally got today. So I’m enjoying.. loving my new home and am excited to do more regular work on my comics. This latest comic was inked with micron pens again as opposed to my tablet. I just missed drawing on paper so it was very refreshing to actually have a page to hold and look at after I was done as opposed to a print out when I use the tablet (But yes the grey tones and effects were photoshopped
. Since I’m constantly changing tools and trying things I think it’ll be very interesting to see what tools I’ll favor a few years from now. Anyways I’m itching to use this new internet and catch up on things so I’m going to go dork out for a bit and then I’ll get back to my drawing. Have fun everyone – LaTeRz
