Comic Notes : Just in case your wondering the minions do have names. They are Truckbill Platypus, Punch Monkey, and Jack-O-Box.
I’m finally in my new home but it looks like it might take me a little longer than I thought to get settled in, but we all know how that goes. Still I’m very excited about everything in general and can’t wait to get back to getting my arts on. Also I’m writing this little note from a coffee shop because I don’t have any internet yet. I’m shopping around and if anyone knows of any good deals in the 27529 area I’d appreciate the info. Other than that I’m going to get back to setting everything up. Happy happy joy joy..

Yes! I finally got a day to myself before I move this weekend and whola! managed to get a new AntGuy done. I can’t wait until after I’m all settled in and can finally get some sort of schedule going. So I apologize for the long waits between updates and I will work very hard on fixing that. So, right now I think I’m the slowest updating webcomic on the net and guess what, here’s another way to do webcomics wrong. Pick a style that involves hours and hours of hatching and detailing so that it takes forever to draw. I really can’t help it though Ant Guy is a labor of love and this is how I want to do it. So I wanted to share a bigger version of the art to show some of the work that doesn’t come through when it’s shrunk down. Here it is. LaTeRz!

Life’s been a handful this week for me but I wanted to at least get something posted. Here’s a sneak peek at the next Ant Guy comic. Dr. Psychosis’s minions are going to be awesome! Also I want to note that I’ve been house hunting with my girlfriend and as soon as we get it all worked out I’ll finally have a place to finally set up my studio proper. When that happens I’ll be able to finally set a schedule for the comic and get a lot more done. In the meantime thanks for stopping by!
Alright well after all the crazy things going on it’s time to get back to work. So I decided to do a sketch to get myself warmed up. I asked my roommates what character I should draw for “B” and all of them said Batman. Nothing against Batman but the purpose of this sketch blog is to try and draw things I’ve never drawn before and I’ve drawn Batman quite a bit (sorry DJ). These drawings are also helping me get familiar with Manga Studio Ex, which I’m starting to favor over Photo Shop as far as drawing with a tablet. Any suggestions for “C” anyone?
Recently I lost a friend.. actually he was more than a friend. We were friends, band mates, fellow artists, and brothers. His name is Chris Tolliver and he lost a battle with cancer, he was 35. It’s taken me awhile to get used to this and it’s been hard to focus on anything at all. But out of the many things he taught me is that you have to be free and live each day to the fullest. So I’ve gathered my strength, collected my thoughts, and will continue to pursue my dream of becoming an artist. He always believed I would make it one day so I will do the best I can. But first I want to share a few things in remembrance.
That’s Chris relaxing and watching a band before our turn to hit the stage. Music was his passion and he loved to listen as much as he played. One of the last memories I have of him was when I went to visit him at the hospital one day. I wasn’t sure exactly which room he was in until I heard his acoustic guitar being played, it was great to see him even in the hospital still holding strong and true.

In the above video that’s the whole band playing at the Lincoln Theatre. We had a lot of fun playing out, it wasn’t about money or fame. It was just what we loved to do. Chris is lead singer and guitar, Bryant on rhythm guitar, Tommy 2 shirts on Bass and that’s me on the drums. I will miss and treasure these moments always.
In trying to find a way to pay tribute and help out in what little way us poor punk rockers can we played a tribute show with Dear Cousin Muscles. They learned a few of our songs and let me and Tommy fill in on the rhythm section. Also for the show I designed the following image..
..which we put on T-shirts and Posters that sold at the show to raise money for his son Alex’s (3 years old) college fund. The show went well and we sold out of shirts so we are going to have to print a second run for everyone who requested one. Every bit helps and I want to thank everyone who came out to the show and or bought a shirt. We can never do enough to help but at least it’s a start. If any friends or family read this and couldn’t make it out to the show or would just like to help out I set up an online donation collection. I’ll make sure every bit collected is added to the fund.
On one final note. I drew the above image of the Gunslinger for Chris. The Dark Tower series was his favorite and he got all of us in the band into it. We even joked around and called ourselves ka-tet. There are many memorable lines in the series but the one that springs to mind is, “There are other worlds than these.” I hope that’s true and one day I’ll see you again friend.
